How to Choose the Right Job
It nearly goes without saying that choosing the “right” job is a highly personal choice. However, while this might seem like an obvious statement, every day people enter jobs because they think they are supposed to be in job, not because it fits their goals and interests.
Choosing the right job for you comes down to understanding yourself and what you want, and then knowing how to pursue the kind of work most likely to help you get those things. For some people, work is very important, and it is very important that they be able to use their mind, or work with their hands. For others, work is a means to an end and they want to be able to spend as little time as possible at work, have it provide a basic standard of living and then devote their time and energy elsewhere.
For some people, it’s all about the money. There’s no right or wrong choice, there is only right or wrong for any given individual. But even here, it is important to keep in mind that job choices are rarely necessarily permanent.
To start to understand what the right job for you is, inventory your likes and dislikes:
- Like to work independently or on a team?
- Outdoors or at a desk?
- Make a lot of money, or enough to meet needs?
- Supporting social causes or working in a large corporation?
You get the point; inventory what makes you tick. Irrespective of how you answer the questions, you will find that there are plenty of occupation types that will make for the right job for you.
